چکیده

Management of patients with unstable DRFs is controversial. There is no definitive evidence to support one surgical fixation method over another. Currently, operative management of unstable DRFs mainly includes external fixation (EF) and internal fixation (IF). Few previous reports have concluded that IF is superior compared to EF. However, the results were still inconclusive. In this study, authors retrospectively reviewed the clinical data records of patients treated with EF and IF for unstable DRFs. A total of 55 patients were selected for the study and divided into two groups: group A (IF) and group B (EF) including 35 and 20 patients, respectively. There was significant difference (P<0.05) regarding operation time, hospital stay, quick DASH scores and supinationpronation (ROM) function whereas no difference (P>0.05) was seen regarding follow-up time and flexion and extension (ROM) functions. Therefore, IF is better compared to EF for unstable DRFs regarding post-operative functional recovery.

A biomechanical comparison of fragment-specific fixation and augmented external fixation for intra-articular distal radius fractures.

The biomechanical stability of an internal fixation system that uses low-profile modular implants to stabilize individual fracture components was studied in a validated cadaver fracture model that incorporated physiologic muscle forces and wrist motion. Fragment-specific fixation with immediate range of motion was compared with static augmented external fixation in simulated, unstable 3- and 4-...

Open reduction and internal fixation compared to closed reduction and external fixation in distal radial fractures

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In unstable distal radial fractures that are impossible to reduce or to maintain in reduced position, the treatment of choice is operation. The type of operation and the choice of implant, however, is a matter of discussion. Our aim was to investigate whether open reduction and internal fixation would produce a better result than traditional external fixation. METHODS 5...

External fixation versus internal fixation for closed unstable intra-articular fracture of the distal radius. Early results from a prospective study.

This is a prospective study of a series of 26 patients with closed unstable comminuted intra-articular fracture distal end of the radius treated with two different methods of treatment to compare their anatomical and functional results. The external fixation group consisted of 12 patients and internal fixation group consisted of 14 patients. The anatomical and functional assessments were perfor...

Randomised study of non-bridging external fixation compared with intramedullary fixation of unstable distal radial fractures.

This is a randomised study to compare two types of osteosynthesis to mobilise wrists after distal fractures of the radius. Inclusion criteria were Older type 2 and 3 fractures. External fixation was managed with Hoffmann II compact non-bridging. Internal fixation was managed with Micronail. Patients were followed up for 12 weeks. The primary outcome was the results of the disabilities of arm, s...

Comparison of close reduction and percutaneous pin fixation as treatments for distal metaphyseal radius fractures

Background: Distal radius fractures are one of the most common fractures of skeletal system and because of the aging of population, its incidence is rising. The aim of the present research was to evaluate the close reduction and percutaneous pin fixation as a treatment option. Material and methods: 44 patients who were type 2 according to universal classification or type 2 or 3 according to Ol...
